Labs

Labs are dedicated research tools. Each lab combines one reviewed data release with a workspace designed for that data. Labs are available when the function is enabled for the organization, and each lab is assigned to specific groups, so two members of the same organization can see different labs.

Opening a lab

When at least one lab is assigned to the user's groups, a Labs section appears at the bottom of the sidebar and lists each assigned lab by name. Selecting a name opens the lab. Assigned labs can also be found by name in the global search.

Selecting the Labs heading collapses or expands the list; the browser remembers the choice. While the list is collapsed and a lab is open, the heading stays highlighted. Without an assigned lab, the section does not appear.

Labs catalogue

The catalogue page, Data experiments, shows every lab assigned to the user's groups as a card. It opens from the Back to Labs link on a lab's error screens. Each card shows:

• the release channel and the lab title, with a reviewed label;
• a short description of the lab;
• release counts: Nodes, Relationships and Audit;
• the identifier of the release the lab currently opens (Release:).

Selecting a card opens the lab. Your group has no labs assigned right now. means that Labs is enabled for the organization, but none of the user's groups has a lab assigned.

What a lab contains

A lab is delivered as a package with two parts:

• A reviewed data release — a fixed, identified version of the lab's data. The release does not change while it is open. Material found later, such as new findings from the open web, can be accepted for the next release but never alters the current one.
• A workspace — the screens built for that kind of data. Most labs open in the shared lab workspace described in Using a lab workbench. A lab that needs a different interface, such as the map-based Telecom Lab, has its own.

Relationships and findings carry a research status. Each lab offers the statuses that apply to its data — Verified, Probable or Unresolved — and its filters control which of them are displayed.

Persate remembers the last view and the Lab Advisor conversation for each lab, so reopening a lab in the same browser continues where the work stopped. When a newer reviewed release is published, the lab opens on it and keeps the current view settings, such as filters, the selected group and the focused entity.

Access

Labs are assigned to groups. The assignment is not managed in Settings; to request access to a lab, contact the organization's administrator. Access requires both that Labs is enabled for the organization and that one of the user's groups has the lab assigned.
