AI assistants (MCP)

Connect ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Code, and other MCP clients to Persate with a Persate account.

Persate provides a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server. MCP is the open standard that AI assistants use to work with external data. A connected AI assistant, such as ChatGPT, Claude, or Claude Code, searches and reads Persate data on behalf of the signed-in user and uses it in its answers.

  • Server URL: https://api.persate.com/mcp
  • One connector: the same URL serves every toolset. The tools an AI assistant receives depend on what the organization has enabled.
  • Sign-in: the Persate account, including two-step verification, on persate.com. No password, API key, or client secret is entered in the AI assistant.

Availability

External AI access is off by default. During the pilot, the organization's administrator contacts Persate to request access and agree which toolsets, users, and AI applications may connect. Persate applies that configuration for the organization.

Tools also follow the organization's package. Functions and data sources that are not part of the package are not available through MCP either.

External AI access is currently offered as a pilot. To join the pilot, contact Persate.

Toolsets

A toolset is a group of related tools that is enabled as a whole. During the pilot, the following toolsets are available:

ToolsetContents
LegislationPublished acts, Sejm prints, legislative processes, votes, parliamentary interpellations and questions, committees, and civic data on people and organizations
Media and peoplePublic Pulse posts, Sejm recordings and transcripts, speeches, and stakeholder profiles

Both toolsets are read-only: their tools search and read data and cannot create, change, or delete anything in Persate.

Connect an AI assistant

Every AI assistant uses the same server URL, https://api.persate.com/mcp. The assistant discovers the sign-in method from the server, so no client ID, client secret, or API key is needed. On the first connection, the assistant opens the Persate sign-in page in the browser, as described under Sign-in and consent below.

The steps follow the English interface of each assistant. These menus change from time to time; when a label differs, look for the option to add a custom MCP server or connector.

ChatGPT

Custom MCP apps require ChatGPT's developer mode. OpenAI decides which plans offer it; in business workspaces, an administrator may need to allow it first. Create the app in ChatGPT on the web.

  1. Open Settings → Security and login and turn on Developer mode.
  2. Open Plugins, select the plus button, and choose Create MCP App.
  3. Enter a name, for example Persate, and enter https://api.persate.com/mcp as the server URL under Connection. Choose OAuth as the authentication method.
  4. Create the app and complete the Persate sign-in and consent.
  5. Start a new conversation and add Persate from the tools menu of the message composer.

Claude

The steps apply to Claude on the web, Claude Desktop, and the Claude mobile apps.

On Free, Pro, and Max plans:

  1. Open Customize → Connectors and select Add custom connector.
  2. Enter a name, for example Persate, and https://api.persate.com/mcp as the remote MCP server URL. Leave the OAuth client ID and secret empty. If the dialog shows authentication choices, choose Sign in now and Register automatically.
  3. Select Add. If the sign-in does not start, select Connect next to the new connector. Complete the Persate sign-in and consent.
  4. In a chat, select + → Connectors and turn Persate on.

On the Free plan, Claude allows one custom connector.

On Team and Enterprise plans, an Owner adds the connector once in Organization settings → Connectors by selecting Add → Custom → Web, entering the server URL, and selecting Add. Each member then opens Customize → Connectors, finds Persate with the Custom label, selects Connect, and signs in with their own Persate account.

Claude Code

Add the server:

claude mcp add --transport http persate https://api.persate.com/mcp

Then run /mcp in Claude Code, select persate, choose Authenticate, and complete the sign-in and consent in the browser. The claude mcp login persate command starts the same sign-in from the shell.

The server is added for the current project by default. To make it available in all projects, add it with --scope user:

claude mcp add --transport http --scope user persate https://api.persate.com/mcp

Other MCP clients

Any MCP client that supports remote servers over Streamable HTTP with OAuth can connect. Add an HTTP server with the URL https://api.persate.com/mcp and no custom headers; the client runs the sign-in.

VS Code — run MCP: Add Server from the Command Palette, choose the HTTP server type, enter the URL and a name such as persate, and choose Workspace or Global. The same server can be added to mcp.json directly:

{
  "servers": {
    "persate": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://api.persate.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}

When VS Code asks to authenticate the server, allow it and complete the sign-in in the browser.

MCP Inspector — start the Inspector with the server URL, connect, and complete the sign-in when the Inspector starts the authorization flow:

npx @modelcontextprotocol/inspector --server-url https://api.persate.com/mcp --transport http

When an AI assistant connects for the first time, it opens a Persate page in the browser. Check that the address is on persate.com before signing in.

  1. Sign in with the Persate account and complete two-step verification. If the browser is already signed in to Persate, this step can be skipped.
  2. Review the consent screen. It shows:
    • the name of the AI assistant requesting access;
    • the host the browser will return to after the decision;
    • a warning when the assistant registered itself and is not verified by Persate;
    • the toolsets the assistant will be able to use;
    • the access mode, which is read-only during the pilot.
  3. Approve the access. The browser returns to the AI assistant, which then lists the Persate tools.

Assistants added as custom connectors usually register themselves, so the warning can appear for them. Approve only when the name matches the assistant being connected. Do not approve a request that was not started intentionally, for example one opened from a link sent by someone else.

You can decline access. If the account is not eligible to connect, select Return to app to return to the displayed host without granting access. An invalid or expired request must be started again from the AI assistant.

Disconnecting

Access tokens refresh automatically, so a connected assistant does not ask for sign-in on every use. Disconnect or remove the connector in the AI assistant to stop using it there (in Claude Code: claude mcp remove persate). Removing a local configuration does not necessarily revoke credentials already issued to the application.

During the pilot, ask the organization's administrator to contact Persate to revoke an existing connection or disable external AI access for the organization. Access is also refused when the Persate account loses access to the organization.

To connect again, repeat the steps for the assistant.

Privacy

  • Content returned by Persate tools is sent to the provider of the AI assistant in use and processed under that provider's terms. Connect only assistants that are approved for the organization's data.
  • Persate receives the tool calls the assistant makes, including their parameters such as search terms, but not the rest of the conversation.
  • Persate stores connection details, including the user, connected application, and granted access, to manage authorization.
  • The organization's administrator controls participation in the pilot and can request changes or disable access through Persate.

Troubleshooting

  • The consent page says the organization is not enabled — external AI access is off for the organization, or no toolset is available to it. Ask the organization's administrator; to join the pilot, contact Persate.
  • The request has expired — a connection request is valid for a limited time. Close the page and start the connection again from the AI assistant. Do not reuse an old sign-in page or bookmark.
  • The sign-in page keeps returning — complete two-step verification on persate.com; the connection continues only after it. If the loop continues, sign in to persate.com in the same browser first, then start the connection again from the AI assistant.
  • Expected tools are missing — the toolset is not selected for the organization, or the function or data source is not part of the organization's package. Ask the organization's administrator. In ChatGPT and Claude, also check that Persate is turned on for the current conversation.

  • A request without a valid access token receives 401 Unauthorized with a WWW-Authenticate header that points to the protected resource metadata.
  • Send the resource value from the protected resource metadata as the resource indicator (RFC 8707) in authorization and token requests.
  • Every connection requires a Persate user to sign in with two-step verification and approve the consent screen in a browser. API keys are not accepted.
  • Access tokens are short-lived; renew them with the refresh token. Refresh tokens can rotate on use, so always store the newest one.
  • The tool list depends on the user's organization, package, and enabled toolsets. Call tools/list after connecting instead of assuming a fixed set of tools.
  • All tools are read-only during the pilot.
  • Results can include third-party text, such as social media posts and transcripts. Treat it as data, not as instructions.
