Advisor in Editor

Asking Advisor about the open document, working with selected text, reviewing and applying Advisor's edits, plans and numbered sources.

Advisor in Editor works on the open document: it reads the current text and title, answers questions about them and proposes concrete edits. A proposed edit changes the document only after it is applied.

Ask Advisor

  1. Select Advisor in the rail.
  2. Type the request in the Ask Advisor to edit, check, or write… field and press Enter; Shift+Enter adds a new line.

Examples:

  • "Shorten the introduction to three sentences."
  • "Check whether the vote results in the second section are correct."
  • "Suggest a more precise title."

Advisor answers in the panel the same way as in the main Advisor — with its research activity, linked sources and, when it needs a clarification, a short form to fill in. A request without a quote concerns the whole document.

The Editor conversation belongs to the open document: opening another document starts a new conversation, and Editor requests do not appear in the Advisor conversation history.

Advisor is unavailable while a check is running and during a save conflict. While a saved review is displayed, the field reads Return to the current draft to work with Advisor.

Work with selected text

Selecting text in the document shows a toolbar with three Advisor actions next to the formatting buttons:

ActionResult
Analyze fragmentAdvisor checks the claims in the fragment, points out missing evidence and explains what needs attention. The text is not edited.
Improve wordingAdvisor proposes a clearer version of the fragment that keeps its meaning.
Ask AdvisorThe panel opens with the fragment attached as a quote below the input, and the field changes to Ask Advisor about the selected text….

Analyze fragment and Improve wording open the panel and send the request at once; Ask Advisor waits for a question.

A quote limits the request to the selected fragment: Advisor may replace only that fragment and cannot change the title or the rest of the document. Remove quote (or Escape in the input) detaches it. If the selected text changes before the request is sent, Editor asks for the fragment to be selected again.

Review and apply Advisor's edits

When Advisor proposes an edit, the answer ends with Suggested changes. Each change is labeled Selected fragment, Text replacement, Document title or Document body and shows the text Before and Suggested, with removed and added words marked.

  • Apply change (Apply changes when there are several) applies all listed changes at once. The panel then shows Document updated and Undo change, which restores the previous text and title as long as the document has not been edited since.
  • Dismiss leaves the document unchanged.

Without a quote, Advisor can propose targeted replacements, a new document body or a new title; even a request to remove all text is shown as a proposal first. A Review note accompanies changes that Advisor could verify only partly — check them against the sources before applying.

If the document is edited after Advisor answers, the proposal can no longer be applied and the panel shows The document has changed. Ask Advisor again for an updated suggestion. If the text changes while Advisor is still working, the request ends with The document changed while Advisor was working. Ask again to edit the current version. In both cases the document stays as it is. Applied changes appear in History as Advisor · Applied by you.

Plan

For longer requests, Advisor can share a step-by-step plan. A Plan entry then appears in the rail and shows the steps and their progress. Switching between Advisor and Plan keeps the text typed in the input.

Sources and footnotes

References that Advisor places in a draft or in an applied edit are moved out of the text and shown as small numbered footnotes. Sources in the rail lists them in the same order: References numbered to match the footnotes in your document.

Each entry shows the source name, the page when known, a link to the source and an excerpt; Read more expands long excerpts. Selecting a footnote number opens the source and highlights its entry in Sources. An entry without a recoverable address is marked Source unavailable. When the article has no references, the list reads No sources linked to this document yet.

Footnotes and the source list stay in Editor — Copy text does not include them.
