Interactive tutorials

Explore Persate with a full walkthrough or a short tutorial for a specific feature.

Choose a tutorial

Open Settings → Interactive tutorials. The library is grouped like the navigation, with Settings last, and lists only the modules available to the account. The Getting started group holds the tutorials for the whole platform and the Guides to features available everywhere, such as the navigation and Search. Some organization guides are listed only for organization administrators.

The tutorials are:

  • Getting started — opens a story in the Cockpit, follows a draft law to one of its stages and drafts a question for the Advisor. It is offered when the Cockpit, Legislation and Advisor are all enabled.
  • Find anything with Search — opens Search, narrows the results to one category and previews a result.
  • Find a bill, read its process — in Legislation, searches and filters projects, expands a project's stage and previews a document.
  • Check what an alert found — in Tracker, opens an enabled alert, expands a match and checks its source and matching sensitivity.
  • Replay a moment from a sitting — in Recordings, opens a committee sitting, jumps to a moment from the transcript and plays a statement from the official transcript.
  • Prepare a question — in Advisor, drafts a question, chooses the analysis depth and opens context search without sending anything.

Each tutorial shows a progress bar and its status, such as Completed. Selecting its name expands the steps: completed steps are ticked, and Next step marks where the tutorial continues. The button beside it reads Start tutorial, Resume tutorial or Repeat tutorial; an interrupted tutorial also offers Start over. A module's guides are collected in one row, such as Guides: Tracker. Expand it and select Open beside a guide; a guide that explains a particular page opens that page too.

The Getting started section at the bottom of the sidebar offers the same entry points:

  • Interactive tutorial starts the Getting started tutorial, or resumes it from the saved step, with a counter showing progress. On the first visit, a tooltip beside it offers a short tour; closing the tooltip dismisses the offer, and the entry remains. Once the tutorial is completed, or when it is not available, Interactive tutorials takes its place and opens the library.
  • When the current page has its own unfinished tutorial, that tutorial appears here by name.
  • Guide & FAQ opens the guide for the current page, or the library when the page has no guide.
  • Documentation opens this documentation in a new tab.

On a phone, Guide & FAQ and Interactive tutorials are in the navigation menu of the dock at the bottom of the screen.

Save unfinished work before starting a tutorial: its first step may open another page.

Follow the steps

The tutorial points at one control at a time: a ring marks the control, and a numbered tooltip beside it says what to do. The application stays fully usable, and the tutorial does not click, type or send anything on the user's behalf. When the action is detected, the ring confirms it with a tick and moves to the next control, on another page if needed. While a page opens or loads, the tooltip says so.

Steps that the page has nothing for, such as opening a story on an empty Cockpit, are skipped automatically. When a step asks for typing, Enter does not send the text, so a practice question does not reach the Advisor. After leaving the page or closing the panel that a step needs, the tutorial goes back to the step that leads there, or points at the module in the navigation. On a phone, the pointer may first mark the navigation menu button.

While a tutorial runs, the Getting started section lists its steps with a progress bar: completed steps are ticked and the current step is highlighted. With the sidebar collapsed to icons, only the step number is shown.

Guide and FAQ

Every module has guides that explain its pages. In the browser, the question-mark button at the left of the header opens the guide for the current page; its tooltip reads Guide & FAQ. When something with its own guide is open, such as a recording, that guide opens instead. Selecting the button again closes the guide. On a page without a guide, the button opens this documentation; in the desktop app, it always does.

The guide opens in a panel on the right, and the page stays usable beside it. Esc or a click outside the panel closes it. The panel has two tabs:

  • What to click — the page's controls, numbered, each with what it does. Show me closes the panel and marks the control on the page with its name and explanation; the Guide button at the right edge of the screen brings the panel back. A control that is not on the screen is greyed out. If the guide's page is not open, Show me opens it first.
  • FAQ — answers to common questions about the page.

More guides lists the module's other guides. The footer of the panel starts the page's tutorial, if it has one, and links to the Documentation. When another page opens, the panel switches to that page's guide.

Sound controls

Tutorials are narrated in the interface language. The control strip below the steps holds:

  • a line that follows the narrator's voice while it speaks and stays flat in silence;
  • the speaker button, Mute tutorial audio or Unmute tutorial audio, and a volume slider that also responds to the arrow keys;
  • Skip step (the arrow), which moves on to the next step;
  • Stop tutorial (the cross).

Sound is off on the first visit. Moving the slider to zero mutes the narration, and moving it up turns the sound back on. Muting or changing the volume does not restart the current instruction. The browser remembers the sound setting and the volume. While the narrator speaks, the tooltip shows a small sound wave. The sound controls appear only when narration is available in the interface language.

Pause and return

Stop tutorial ends the tutorial and saves the step reached. Starting it again from the sidebar, from the guide panel or with Resume tutorial in the library continues from that step; Start over begins from the first step. Completing the last step records the tutorial as completed, and the library then offers Repeat tutorial.

Progress is saved to the account, so it is available on other devices. If saving fails, Not saved. Retry appears below the controls; in the library, Try again retries loading or saving progress.

Tutorials, guides and narration follow the interface language. With reduced motion enabled on the device, the pointer moves without animation and the voice line stays still.
